For four years, members of Gann Academy's Class of 2026 have been living with the question woven through the student experience: Who will you become?

On Sunday, graduates, families, faculty, and friends gathered for Gann's 27th Commencement Ceremony. Diplomas were awarded, speeches were delivered, and plenty of proud family and friends filled the gym with roaring cheers. But more than anything, the afternoon was a chance to celebrate the journeys that brought the Class of 2026 to this cumulating moment.

For every graduate, the answer to that overarching question looked a little different.

Some student speakers shared about finding their voice. Others reflected on discovering new passions, strengthening friendships, deepening their Jewish identity, or pursuing futures they had not imagined when they first arrived at Gann. Their stories showed just how many different paths a Gann student could be led.

Head of School Dr. Dalia Hochman described the "day of immense celebration, joy, and pride" for the individual journeys and the shared experiences that shaped this class. While each graduate leaves Gann with a different story, she reminded the graduates that they also leave as part of something larger than themselves.

One recurring theme found in all speeches was an acknowledgement of people who helped shape their experience. Student Council President Jacob Darish recalled arriving at school each morning to find Assistant Head of School David Ball under the archway, greeting students by name. Darish said it was a brief moment of daily Gann life but one that captured the feeling of being known and cared for.

Gideon Kaplan observed that "authenticity only nurtures more connection", while DanDan Hayman reflected that high school is not about reinventing yourself, but about giving yourself the opportunity to grow. The ShenaniGanns' performance of Fleetwood Mac's Landslide was a poignant song for an afternoon spent reflecting and looking ahead.

Commencement ceremonies mark the closing of one chapter, but its name also reminds us that something new is beginning. As seniors were officially presented as graduates, maroon caps went flying and joyful cheers carried through the gym in celebration of everything they had accomplished, both individually and collectively, and all that lies ahead.

Who will they become? The answer is still unfolding.
